[Call For Demo] Laval Virtual ReVolution 2009

Laval Virtual ReVolution 2009
-World Performance of VR Applications-

Image Laval Virtual ReVolution is an annual honor to the world's
finest VR project, by Laval Virtual. This is a hall of fame award that
decides the best Virtual Reality demonstration and/or application from
all over the world. Virtual Reality is not only a technology but also
a never ending story between computers and human history.
We cannot get the final answer of this issue immediately, as we still
need to find and walk one of the many possible paths that will lead us
to a future navigated by brilliant stars. The staring at those stars
should be continued for the future voyagers on the way.
Of course, a great number of academic papers or commercial products
can build a way of Virtual Reality. However we suggest a new relation
between developmental projects and general public at on-site
demonstrations. If a performed project has impact, technology and
persuasive, it will move the general public and change the common sense.
So, this means a revolution in the history of Virtual Reality.
Please try to join today's stardom with your exciting project.
And share the activity from all over the world!

Session Organizer: Akihiko SHIRAI, Ph.D ( ENSAM P&I Lab )

We hope to accept your brilliant projects which can get over the current
common sense of Virtual Reality and make changes to the current
human-computer interfaces and Virtual Reality history.

-Interactive Arts
-Entertainment VR
-New Media Designs
-New Game Systems

[CFP]Tangible and Embeded Interaction '09

ANNOUNCING THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TANGIBLE AND EMBEDDED INTERACTION

----------------------------------------------------------------------

DATES AND LOCATION

Paper submission deadline 31st Oct 08
Reviews due 27th Nov 08
Author notification deadline 30th Nov 08
Camera-ready copy deadline 15th Dec 08
Early registration deadline 7th Jan 09

Conference dates February 16-18, 2009, Cambridge, UK
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Computing is progressively moving beyond the desktop into new physical and social contexts. One key area of innovation has been around tangible computing, which pushes the user interface beyond the digital into the physical world. This includes work on tangible interfaces, graspable interfaces, physical computing, and interactive surfaces. A closely related topic is that of embedded interaction where the everyday objects and environments we interact with are computationally augmented in new ways. Designing such systems requires interdisciplinary thinking. Their creation must not only encompass software, electronics, and mechanics, but also the system's physical form and behaviour, as well as its social impacts.

After the big success of TEI'07 and TEI'08 we are pleased to announce the third international conference dedicated to presenting the latest results in tangible and embedded interaction. We invite submissions of work addressing HCI issues, design, user experience, tools and technologies, as well as interactive art in the broad area of tangible computing and embedded interactive systems. The intimate size of this single-track conference provides a unique forum for exchange of ideas through talks, interactive exhibits, demos, posters, art installations and performances. All accepted submissions will be included in the conference proceedings, which will be published through the ACM Digital Library.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

TOPICS FOR SUBMISSION

Authors are invited to submit high-quality original work to advance the field. Appropriate topics include but are not limited to:

* Examples of novel tangible interfaces or embedded interactive systems
* Case studies and evaluations of working deployments
* Relation of tangible and embedded interaction to other paradigms
* Programming paradigms and tools, toolkits, software architectures
* Novel enabling technologies
* Interactive uses of sensors and actuators, and electronics and mechatronics
* Design guidelines and methods
* Applied design in the form of concept sketches, prototypes and products
* Novel applications
* Theoretical foundations, frameworks, and concepts
* Philosophical, ethical and social implications
* Usability
* Provocative design work and interactive art
----------------------------------------------------------------------

SUBMISSION DETAILS

Authors are invited to submit papers that are 2, 4, 6 or 8 pages long, formatted to follow the two column ACM SIGCHI format. We are happy to consider a variety of styles for inclusion in the proceedings, such as academic papers, design sketches and descriptions of art pieces or installations. All accepted submissions will be included in the conference proceedings, which will be published through the ACM Digital Library.

At the time of submission, authors will be able to specify their preferred format for presenting the work, which includes:

* 15 minute talk
* 5 minute talk
* Poster
* Interactive demo
* Exhibit

We anticipate a large volume of submissions this year, but the timeslots available for talks (and space available for demos and exhibits) will be limited by necessity. In order to be help the program committee to include as much interesting work as possible, authors will also be able to specify whether they would be happy to present their work in a format other than their preferred format.

Submissions will be peer reviewed in a double-blind process: please anonymize your submission. In case of acceptance, at least one author must register before the early registration deadline for the conference in order for the final paper version to be published in the conference proceedings.

SSD(Solid State Drive)

・いきなり電源を切っても壊れないPC(今はダメだけど...)

http://slashdot.jp/hardware/article.pl?sid=08/05/23/0624200

http://gigazine.net/index.php?/news/comments/20080204_usb_memory_life/

Laval Virtual ReVolution 2008, the submission deadline was extended

Dear colleagues of VR and interactive techniques,

The submission deadline of Laval Virtual ReVolution, the world
competition of VR demonstrations, was past at 1st Febrary 2008.

We would like to say great thanks to your submitted projects. However,
unfortunately, we had some other important deadlines in parallel.

We held the 10th anniversary of Laval Virtual in this year. To honor our
"invited acceptance" (it includes your international flight tickets,
accommodation and gala dinner tickets at the old castle), we need more
great number of submissions and quality.

If you already have submitted your project, you got a chance to improve
the submission with the latest state of arts and/or special approach for
Laval Virtual.

If your project have not started your submission, you should register
your project on the online now.
http://www.laval-virtual.org/revolution/

The extend deadline will be 8th February at 16:00(GMT).

This page will help you to get details.
http://www.laval-virtual.org/revolution/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4&Itemid=12

We are looking forward to find the best project on the VR history!

-Provide as much detail as possible, but remember that the jury will
evaluate your work based solely on the uploaded materials, so you must
make sure the uploaded materials capture or explain its merits. Any
notes you give here are for clarification purposes only).
If so, please give details.
-Check here to request review by the English Review Service.
Non-native English speakers may use the English Review Service to help

The next page is a agreement of rights no changes as before.

Anyway, it sounds difficult for past challengers but it makes a lot of
chance for newcommers, I think!

http://www.siggraph.org/s2008/

Information System (SIS)
https://sis.siggraph.org/cgi-bin/SIS_SSL.py

-- Urgent FolderShare User Notification --

Dear FolderShare friends,

This mail is to alert you to a potential issue with the data you have
saved with FolderShare.

Please do NOT delete files from your FolderShare Trash folder until you
have verified that you were not affected by this situation.

From 12/3/07 to 12/6/07, some files may have been accidentally moved
from their original folders into the FolderShare Trash folder. The bug
that caused this problem has been fixed.

The only files affected are ones with names containing certain
characters, such as accents, trademark signs, etc. For example,
"Espan~a.jpg."

If you were impacted, your files should still be recoverable. They can
be found and restored from the FolderShare Trash.

All users should do the following:

1) Do NOT delete files from your FolderShare Trash folder until you are
certain that you were not affected by this problem.

2) Look in your FolderShare Trash folder for any files that should not
be there. To access your FolderShare Trash folder:

a. Click on the FolderShare icon in your System Tray
b. Click on "More"
c. Click on "View Trash"

If you see files in the Trash folder that should not be there, move them
back to their intended folders. Look for files with accents or special
characters, such as "Espan~a.jpg"

Note: in a few cases, the original folder could have been deleted, in
which case you will need to recreate it.

For the latest updates on this situation, see the FolderShare web site:
http://www.foldershare.com

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this problem has caused. We
have corrected the source of the problem and taken steps to help prevent
this from happening again.

Thank you for your continued support of FolderShare.

Call for Demo: Laval Virtual ReVolution 2008

Laval Virtual is the biggest VR convention in Europe, held yearly at Laval. We're currently organizing the 10th edition, which will include an international academic conference (VRIC), a student competition in cooperation with IVRC (http://ivrc.org/), an awarding event, an international exposition and "ReVolution", an international contribution of VR demonstrations.

Laval Virtual ReVolution 2008
-World Performance of VR Applications-

Laval Virtual ReVolution is an annual honor to the world's finest
VR project, by Laval Virtual. This is a hall of fame award that decides
the best Virtual Reality demonstration and/or application from all over
the world. Virtual Reality is not only a technology but also a never
ending story between computers and human history.
We cannot get the final answer of this issue immediately, as we still
need to find and walk one of the many possible paths that will lead us
to a future navigated by brilliant stars. The staring at those stars
should be continued for the future voyagers on the way.
Of course, a great number of academic papers or commercial products can
build a way of Virtual Reality.

Session Organizer: Akihiko SHIRAI, Ph.D (ENSAM P&I Lab / JSPS / Miraikan )

We hope to accept your brilliant projects which can get over the current
common sense of Virtual Reality and make changes to the current
human-computer interfaces and Virtual Reality history.

Laval Virtual 2008 website / ReVolution2008

Laval Virtual 2008
http://www.laval-virtual.org/

Laval Virtual ReVolution 2008
-World Performance of VR Applications-

Tokin Motion Sensor MDP-A3U9S on Virtools

Today I developed a building block of Virtools4 for Tokin Motion Sensor
(MDP-A3U9S). It can capture acceleration, gyro and magnetic field on the
earth. In this demo, I can see the North pole through "North" value.

Wiinority Report Interface

http://youtube.com/watch?v=h5TOpOta46g

Today we, Akihiko SHIRAI and Gill Van Herzele, have tried to develop a
"Wiinority Report Interfrace" that was inspired by Johny Lee at CMU. No
real results yet, but we succeeded to detect one finger with a
reflection tape using 4 IR-LEDs. We figure we need a high power LED
array. Besides I forgot to change the calibration range of Wiiremote.
Tomorrow we hope to get better results... o_k
